Start with the purpose of the prototype
A prototype can be used to validate a shape, test ergonomics, check an assembly or measure mechanical behaviour. The right material depends on what you want to learn.
Validating a shape or an assembly
PPA-CF 3D printing is the fastest solution: easy changes, complex geometries, an affordable one-off part. It suits inserts, clubhead components and adjustment parts.
Testing real mechanical behaviour
For the flex, stiffness or mass of a shaft, for example, carbon composite better reproduces the final part, because the continuous fibres behave as in production.
Questions to ask yourself
- How many parts: one, ten, fifty?
- Will the part see loads, impacts, heat?
- Is the shape complex or rather tubular?
- What lead time?
Often, both
A common approach: validate the shape in 3D printing, then manufacture the final version in carbon composite, with printed moulds to limit costs.
